How it works

Catch the Ace

Catch the Ace is a progressive lottery governed by AGCO rules.

We start by shuffling the 52 cards of a playing deck, placing them backs up so we cannot see the cards, then sliding each one into its own envelope, again, without viewing them. The envelopes are then sealed, re-shuffled, then we number the sealed envelopes from 1 – 52. We do not know what cards are in which envelopes.

Tickets are sold online and in paper ticket formats. The buyer enters their name, phone number and envelope choice. Online ticket stubs and paper ticket stubs are the exact same size, colour, stock and weight. All tickets purchased between 4 PM Sunday and approximately noon the next Sunday (online tickets sales cease at 10:00 PM Saturday) are placed into the raffle bin. Tickets are valid for the week they are purchased only.

Each week, on Sunday at 3:15 pm, we conduct a draw of all tickets purchased that week (tickets are valid only for the week they are purchased). Only ONE ticket is drawn from the bin. Only the bearer of the ticket wins the weekly jackpot regardless of the number of people who selected the same envelope number.

One winner weekly wins 20% of the total sales for the week of the draw. Basically $2.00 per ticket sold for the weekly winner and 30% of the sales that week are banked toward the total progressive jackpot when the Ace of Spades is the card held in the envelope selected by the ticket holder that week.

The one ticket picked wins 20% of the total sales for the week the ticket is picked. 30% of the total weekly sales every week are held for the winner of the progressive jackpot when the Ace of Spades in the envelope selected by the bearer of the ticket picked.

The ticket drawn bears the number this winner picked and ONLY this ticket holder wins the weekly prize regardless of how many selected the same number. If the envelope opened contains the Ace of Spades, only the bearer of this ticket wins the weekly prize AND the jackpot. If the envelope selected does not contain the Ace of Spades, the envelope number is retired and can no longer be selected.

One ticket drawn weekly = one winner weekly no matter how many pick that envelope number.
